DESCRIPTION
TII's state-of-the-art ln-Line® Coaxial Surge Protector and Power Extractor (PRO-TRACTOR) is specifically designed for tomorrow's Broadband Hybrid Fiber/Coax (HFC) and Fiber To The Curb (FTTC) distribution networks. It will protect personnel and
equipment from lightning and power induced excess voltage surges on powered coax cable drops, when installed in suitable Network Interface Devices.
It eliminates the need for separate AC power lines and AC protectors. TII's coaxial surge arrester will greatly increase network reliability and significantly improve survivability. The AC power is then used to power RF electronic components.
Coaxial Surge Protection section limits the magnitude of unwanted induced high voltage surge currents that may appear on the center conductor of a coaxial cable. |
The unique InLine"' arrester design is impedance matched to 75 ohms and is transparent to all analog or digital bi-directional signals transmitted at high frequencies from 5MHz to 1.0GHz. TII' s coaxial gas tube arrestor is equipped with an
integral failshort mechanism; in the event of power-cross surges. The breakdown voltage of the arrestor is low enough to limit even the smallest transient surges. TII's PRO TRACTOR power extraction section consists of Hi pass and low pass filter combinations - that allow RF
signals to stay on the coaxial center conductor while the low frequency AC power is extracted.
The device is robust in design, with a metallic housing that provides adequate EMI shielding. The housing is environmentally sealed against moisture and humidity that is normally encountered in above ground outside plant enclosures. The
PRO-TRACTOR module comes equipped with standard CATV approved "F" type coaxial connectors and suitable connections for AC power. |
